The Magic of Charitable Giving

The most effective approach to charitable planning is to incorporate philanthropy into the client/donor's overall estate plan. Unfortunately, charitable gifts, especially larger gifts, are often the result of favorable tax benefits rather than pure philanthropy. It is important to communicate the tax consequences of charitable alternatives in simple terms and to understand which strategies work best in the current low-interest-rate environment. This presentation will evaluate charitable life estates, charitable annuities, charitable remainder trusts and charitable lead trusts as efficient methods of transferring wealth.

L. William Schmidt, Jr., Of Counsel - Holland & Hart
Mr. Schmidt has extensive experience in many areas of trusts and estates law. He helps clients develop and implement plans for their estates and has experience preparing wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, special needs trusts, life insurance trusts, family partnerships, charitable trusts, and charitable foundations. He also has experience with business estate planning, premarital agreements, and probate.

Mr. Schmidt is admitted to practice in Colorado and Texas and before the U.S. District Court, the U.S. Court of appeals (10th Circuit) and the U.S. Tax Court.
