About This Award

The AFP Southern Colorado Chapter has initiated this award to recognize a fundraising professional in the emerging phase of his or her career who exemplifies the best traits and characteristics of our profession. The Inaugural Award was presented in 2009.

2020 Winner

Zuleika Johnson

Associate Director of Development, University of Colorado Colorado Springs


Zuleika is from the Bronx, New York, and she joined the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs (UCCS) development team in 2017. Zuleika Johnson serves as an Assistant Director of Development at UCCS. In her position, Zuleika builds support for the College of Letters, Arts & Sciences, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Initiatives and scholarships to support students. Zuleika has over 7 years of fundraising experience and is passionate about mentoring others in the field and making philanthropy more inclusive. Zuleika graduated from Connecticut College where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Gender Women’s Studies. Zuleika also received her master’s in Public Administration from The City College of New York and her master’s in Business Administration from Colorado Technical University. Zuleika serves as a mentor for Big Brothers Big Sisters, is a Education Committee Member for AFPSOCO and Co-Chairs the Hispanic Advisory Council for El Pomar, Emerging Leaders Development Program. Zuleika joined the Colorado Springs community in 2013. Her and her husband, Charles, look forward to welcoming a baby girl September 2020.
