A culture of philanthropy refers to your organization’s attitude toward philanthropy. Oftentimes, organizations without a culture of philanthropy feel ‘embarrassed’ by fundraising. The development staff is told to “Go forth and fundraise,” as no one else wants to get their hands “dirty.” Non-development staff may respond, “That’s not my job.” The Board says, “I’ll do anything but fundraise.” So how do you get these diverse groups to play their appropriate fundraising roles, whether direct or indirect? How do you help them to see fundraising as a noble pursuit?
Join Jennifer Malenky, Director of Philanthropy and Strategic Partnerships at Colorado Early Colleges Network Support Center; Gina Taranto, Director of Philanthropy at the Space Foundation; and Cari Karns, Senior Director of Development at UCHealth Memorial Hospital Foundation, for an interactive discussion on the trials, tribulations, and triumphs of shifting the needle towards a philanthropy culture.
